Quaker Chemical expert will address international attendees at REACH USA 2010

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., April 14, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --A representative from Quaker Chemical (NYSE: KWR), a global leader in process chemicals, has been asked to speak at the upcoming REACH USA 2010 conference this April in Chicago, IL. Quaker's proactive involvement in the REACH process and its leadership role within a key special interest group, the Substance Information Exchange Forum (SIEF) on MEA polyborates, has caught the attention of industry experts. Quaker believes that sharing their knowledge and expertise publicly will benefit the chemical industry as a whole.

The REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) regulatory system was developed in 2007 by the European Commission to lessen the risk of human health and the environment, and to improve transparency in the chemical industry. It requires European producers and importers of chemicals to register certain chemicals, along with the information needed to use them safely. There are several steps in the registration process. The first deadline (pre-registration) took place in December 2008, and the next deadline (complete registration of high volume substances) is December 2010.

Quaker's Ton van der Kaaij, Senior SHEQ Coordinator and REACH Specialist, is leading the REACH efforts for Quaker globally. He will speak at the upcoming REACH USA conference on the topic of SIEFs including how to organize, expectations, and potential challenges/opportunities. Mr. van der Kaaij has recently spoken at several conferences and forums, sharing his personal experience of leading a SIEF and acting as Lead Registrant for several REACH substances.
