CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., May 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing and driver Josef Newgarden are chomping at the bit to get to the "Indy Dual In Detroit" this weekend to wash away the memories of a very frustrating Indianapolis 500. Newgarden started eighth in the Indy 500 and was running strongly in the top 10 before problems arose on Lap 123 when his car ran out of fuel.
Quaker Chemical Corporation, an official sponsor and technical partner of Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing, supports Newgarden's No. 67 SFHR Dallara/Honda/Firestone entry as the team heads to Detroit to get back on track at Belle Isle Park for two championship races.
"The Indianapolis 500 pushes drivers, teams and cars to the very limit, and we are looking forward to seeing a bounce back in Detroit where the team will have two chances for redemption," Joe Berquist, Quaker VP and Managing Director North America, said. "We are excited to continue to bring our technology to this series, and help Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing meet the challenges ahead, especially at Belle Isle Park, which is located near many Quaker customers."
Newgarden and the SFHR team are all looking forward to a "normal" race weekend after the three pressure-packed weeks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, for the Grand Prix of Indianapolis and the Indianapolis 500.
"I'm excited for a normal race weekend at Detroit, and I think everyone at SFHR is excited to get back going," Newgarden said. "Indy was tough for everyone. We had a really strong car and things didn't go our way, so we want to go to Detroit quickly and run up front again and get a good result."
The 2013 Dual In Detroit saw Newgarden finish a strong seventh in Race 1 and 16th in Race 2 at the 2.35-mile, 13-turn Belle Isle Park street circuit.
"I think we've made good progress from 2013," Newgarden said. "We were all right there last year. We secured a good top 10, but we need to have an even better performance this year. We are looking for podiums. We've done a lot of work on our car in the offseason. It's going to be very different for us this year."
The first of three doubleheader race weekends of the Verizon IndyCar Series season produces double the challenge and twice the fun for Newgarden and the SFHR crew.
"Two races means double points, so you really want to capitalize on the extra points up for grabs," Newgarden said. "One race is fun, but two races is more fun. It reminds me of when I used to drive two races on weekends in junior cars. It's nice to have two opportunities in one weekend."
The Indy Dual in Detroit airs live on ABC at 3:30 p.m. (ET) Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1. To follow along with practice, qualifying and pre-race activities, like Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing on Facebook and follow @SFHRindy on Twitter and Instagram
